Qué

Luxembourg's statistical office, STATEC, launched a series of satellite accounts on the social and solidarity economy (SSE), examining its impact on employment, income, and added value. Additionally, in 2022, they published a panorama paper containing key data on the SSE. The SSE satellite accounts include data from 2015 to 2023, providing information on employment specifications, employee status (resident or cross-border) and salaried employment in full-time equivalents (FTEs). Other economic aspects covered by the satellite accounts include SSE production, market production, intermediate consumption, gross value added, consumption of fixed capital and net value added. The 2022 panorama publication includes general data on the number and characteristics of SSE organisations operating in Luxembourg, as well as their contribution to the economy.

Por qué

Luxembourg’s STATEC has developed satellite accounts for the social and solidarity economy (SSE), capturing the full economic and social contributions of non-profit entities such as associations, foundations, mutual societies, cooperatives and societal impact companies (SIS – Société d'impact sociétal) within its national framework. This approach helps us to understand the effect of the SSE by showcasing its impact on employment and GDP, and by increasing its visibility.

Actividades clave

The launch of the SSE satellite account and the 2022 Panorama Paper involves systematically collecting, classifying and analysing economic and social data on social and solidarity economy organisations operating in the country. STATEC continues to refine and update the satellite accounts, developing its methodology to capture the sector's evolving dynamics.

Repercusión

Having both the SSE satellite account and the 2022 Panorama provides a better understanding of the social and solidarity economy (SSE) in the country, focusing on its structure and the value it adds to the wider economy. This data could inform policy decisions relating to the allocation of resources and the definition of priorities.
